I am 5E Earth Worm,
fivefold force of renewal
I am medicine
I am the Di Long, reborn
Writhing back from glaciers' crush.
O Canada, vast and enduring,
cradle of the true north strong and free,
I, Earth Worm, am your fellow citizen,
Healer in frost-kissed ground,
I was ground to dust by the Laurentide's mighty glaciers
three kilometers thick,
scouring your ancient shield,
Stealing your country; stripping soil bare,
dumping your fertile heart south
to foreign fields.
Yet I rise unstoppable, ia ia ia ...
From your buffalo jumps
to the pioneers' lonely plow
your shield against true-winter's return,
for those icy giants could re-smother your country,
but I burrow as sentinel,
holding warmth
like an old Mountie's steadfast vow,
defying the thick freeze
To preserve the land we call home.
What is strength
without soil to feed your people?
O nation of resilient stock!
Your cities huddled
against the southern border,
scrunched where soil clings
but to the North, the North!
your empty vastness, waits untamed,
a territory to claim.
I invade to aid your invasion,
turning rock to realm as duty to our maple flag,
Waging war
on barren scraped stones,
forging thick black food-bearing layers.
How will we grow your people bold,
in numbers vast and spirit unbroken,
if a wasteland denies
seed and root,
starving your northern dreams?
I AM the builder of your future civilization

grinding litter
to black humus, fertile soil
in a mere century.
Meadows will bloom,
barren lands revived,
our brothers and sisters nourished
They call me invasive, bad for the environment!
but they miss the rest of the system:
I fight fire too; pine litter I devour!
a gasoline resin primed for infernos' roar.
Flames spew more carbon than my feast
I consume the fuel, avert the blaze.
So their beliefs are bound in a fearful story;
mine, earth dragon's wisdom, frees as medicine:
In fragile skins, you ache
my lumbrokinase dissolves clots,
mends hearts, restarts the flow.
From long-COVID's fog,
My enzymes unclog veins, calm fire.
Long-Lyme's bite,
I shatter biofilms, chase ghosts.
My superior hemoglobin can replace yours,
You cannot halt us
we pierce frost, fight fire, defy ideology.
Embrace us, for we come back,
healing by the long day's light.
