2B Bobbit Worm
2B: Bobbit Worm of the underworld, b, b, infectiously born
The bobbit worm (Eunice aphroditois) is a nocturnal ambush predator of warm marine waters, renowned for its iridescent, rainbow-sheened body that can stretch up to three meters long while remaining mostly buried in sand or mud. Lurking almost entirely hidden with only its five sensitive antennae exposed, it detects passing prey and launches a lightning-fast strike with powerful, scissor-like mandibles—capable of cleanly bisecting victims in a burst of bolt-quick violence, dragging them into the burrow for consumption in an underworld ritual of sudden, regenerating terror.
b, b, WORM
Bight-burrowed, Bobbit,
blade-brisk,
bane,
Bright, burnished, bands
break dusk’s,
blue doom,
Barbed, baleful
bolt-quick!!!!,
breath-stealing
Bowspring, jaws burst!,
SNAP!!!
body now in two.
b, b,, bibi bobbet
Bedded, beneath,
you bide,
your buried hours,
Beryl-sheen, beast,
a bayonet,
prior to bloom;
Blind, but five feelers
—barred banners—
Brush at the brink,
beckon,
bait to their doom
B, bibi, b is your brand,
brute,
infectiously born;
Two-edged mandibles
—twinning terror—
Bring sudden bisect,
blood-hush,
bone-shorn.
Bristle-bright,
bend,
of rainbow’d armour,
Bred to break,
yet birth,
again in halves:
“B—two,” the brainless Burgeon!
Bobbit cleaves,
and carves.
This is the 2nd animal in the memory music project.
